On Saturday 12th January 2019…

…I opened my first exhibition after completing an art foundation at Stroud College in June 2018.

this EXHIBITION…

was a significant landmark moment in the start of my career as an artist. The opening brought together my key mentors and the local community, the exhibition also opened up new doors with an array of professional artists, photographers, business leaders, and spiritual workers visiting. Putting on the show was a challenge, but it was hugely enjoyable - I hope this is the first of many.

The opening kicked off…

…with a talk and a dance performance from professional dancer, Emily Watkins. I wanted to experiment with combing performing arts with the installation as this is a big part of my vision for the shift tour, I want the tour to be an interactive experience with dance, movement, art and music workshops and performances accompanying the installation.

speaking and meeting…

…. with other professional artists was helpful in providing new ideas to develop my artwork and explore new mediums, for example sculpture. I enjoyed learning about other perspectives and insights into my work. This opening tour has exposed me to a new range of ideas and contacts.

Because the Painswick Centre, kindly gifted me the space for the 4 days, there were occasional activities also booked in, for example a Pilates class and choir rehearsal, both of which were practiced in front of the installation. Below is a video of Painswick Choir singing ‘Old Man Of The Moor.’ I look forward to arranging more live music to accompany the work in the future.

A lovely spontaneous meeting of artforms and artists in action...thank you Robin Watkins-Davis who invited Painswick Community Choir to sing within her amazing exhibition for this video when our paths crossed in the Cotswold Room on Monday night. This was our first choir session of 2019...revisiting a small section from a composotion of mine called Old Man Of The Moor, written in 2012, with lyrics from a poem called Dart, by Alice Oswald. What a treat to start the new year! Thanks.
